Madonna visits SFK Brazil
As one of SFK’s most passionate supporters, Madonna has experienced the profound difference SFK programs make in the lives of children, families and communities all over the world. She recently traveled to Brazil to visit the SFK programs in Rio and Sao Paulo to see how she could raise awareness and funds for the expansion of these essential programs.
SFK Brazil first began in early 2008, when four Brazilian teachers were trained at the SFK headquarters in Los Angeles. After a careful process of translation and adaptation of the SFK curriculum into Portuguese, the SFK program in Brazil was established. The program launched 6 courses, teaching 140 children in the two main cities of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
Throughout her travels, Madonna has seen that SFK not only inspires children everywhere to learn the concepts of human dignity and sharing, but empowers them to become responsible citizens and leaders, who live happy lives. Whether they’re living in the slums of Malawi, the streets of Miami, or in the favelas of Sao Paulo or Rio, SFK is having a dramatic effect on their behavior and their lives.
Moved by the impact that SFK Brazil is having on local families, Madonna is now contributing her own resources to help pave the way for SFK to flourish in Brazil. During her visit, she was able to raise significant financial resources and garner support from influential Brazilians. It is her hope that many others will be inspired to become supporters of SFK Brazil too.
Brazilian based supporters and partners agree that if SFK could be introduced into the educational system, or to community-based programming around the country, it would have a profound and positive effect on the country as a whole.
This is just the beginning for SFK Brazil and more resources need to be raised, but with the remarkable level of leadership and support already shown, we envision a very bright and happy future for the children of Brazil.
