SFK in Africa

by Pascale Sossah

Throughout the past 2 years, I have used the SFK Education Program, Winning in The Game of Life, focusing on the social-emotional development of students in the Ivory Coast, Benin, and Togo, West Africa. Most students who participated in the program showed great behavioral improvement and learned important lessons such as how to properly manage their emotions and boost their confidence.

Africa has the youngest population and is located on the richest continent of the world.

My mission is to promote Sustainable Development Goals through extra-curricular programs to unlock Global Youth Potential and ensure that all children in the communities that we work with have access to quality education, better infrastructure of school facilities, food, and basic health care.

After a successful pilot implementation, I have decided to introduce more children to this life-changing program by reaching out to schools and organizations. I am pleased to announce the following achievements:

  • July 11, 2022: 5 Facilitators were trained in Benin (2), Togo (2), and Paris (1)
  • Launch of the SFK Summer Program
    • July 18, 2022: School Christophe Colomb in Calavi, Benin (26 kids)
    • July 20, 2022: Bi Language Institute in Porto Novo Benin (20 kids); we hope to include a segment dealing with conversational English and basic English structure and fundamentals with Gwen Johnson, our certified SFK Facilitator located in the US.
    • August 12: School Ecole Nouveau Depart in Togo (12 kids)

With growing division among individuals and countries, as well as increasing rates of teen depression, suicide and shootings, our primary goal must be to create and maintain peace. Peace requires an active engagement and commitment of citizens from all levels of our society to reduce global inequalities.

GOALS FOR THIS COMING SCHOOL YEAR!

  • Make the program available to all kids over the age of 7 at Christophe Colomb and expand to other schools. I hope to serve an estimated 300 kids for the fall.
  • Improve school infrastructures

Without any doubt, I appreciate the support received for translating the program “Winning in the Game of Life” into French, the printing of the Light Book for the pilot phase and first launch and for improving and rehabilitating poor infrastructures.
